This page is intended to highlight the contributions of all kinds that SHOA makes to the community. Year after year, SHOA officials donate time and money to help some very worthy causes. The examples illustrate a few of the ways SHOA and its officials work to make the world a better place.

USA Hockey Disabled Festival

On April 9, 10, and 11, USA Hockey held its annual Disabled Hockey Festival at the Gardens Ice House, which we all know as the Laurel ice rink.

Over this great weekend, 96 games of hockey were played, and the players all had some form of disability. They all had one thing in common though: they all love hockey.

More than 55 SHOA officials donated their time for this great event and made sure that, whatever the level, all players got to enjoy the game they love.

Katelyn Hall Foundation

Every year, the Katelyn Hall Foundation organizes a golf tournament to benefit the March of Dimes.

Katelyn Hall was born on November 16, 2003 to Michael Hall, who for many years officiated in our area, and his wife. Katelyn was an 11-week premature baby who weighed 15.5 ounces and was 11 and a quarter inches long whan she was born. Against all odds, Katelyn survived the many obstacles that she encountered at the beginning of her life. She required a lot of medical help and, to this day, must have specialists work with her on a daily basis.

Katelyn's parents received help from the March of Dimes and, in return, organize each year a golf tournament with all proceeds benefiting the March of Dimes.

SHOA regularly sponsors a hole for this event and many SHOA officials, including some who never touched a golf club in their life, register and donate money to play in this tournament.
