	INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICIES Winter is here and, while it brings back a season of hockey in full swing, it also comes with a variety of weather conditions that can complicate the lives of all involved. Among many things, officials need to know if the High School games they have on their schedule are happening, especially on these "snow days" when schools are closed. Here is an attempt to answer some of your questions. Inclement weather policies vary from league to league and even sometimes from school to school. Below is a summary of the information available to SHOA. This information may be updated frequently. Please be sure to check this often. As a general rule, it is safe to assume that, if the rink is closed, the game will not be played. Make sure you call the rink before you get on your way. You can find the rink number on the Rinks page. Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League (NVSHL) If the rinks are open, the games will be played. However, common sense is to be observed. If the following schools are closed, the games in which they play cannot be played: Bishop Ireton HS Osbourn HS TC Williams HS Maryland Scholastic Hockey League (MSHL) Here is a summary of MSHL's guidance concerning snow days: Capital Conference Games - Capital Conference games are cancelled when a team's school is closed because of snow unless the team calls their Director and the rink's SHOA officials scheduler and confirms that the game will be played. Girls Division Games - Girls Division games are cancelled when a team's school is closed because of snow unless the team calls their Director and the rink's SHOA officials scheduler and confirms that the game will be played. State Declared Snow Emergencies - When the rink is located in an area in which a Snow Emergency has been declared for the roads, the games will be cancelled unless the team calls their Director and the rink's SHOA officials scheduler and confirms that the game will be played. Team Cancellations - Game cancellations are made by the teams scheduled to play after coordination between the two teams. The teams will call the rink’s SHOA officials scheduler and their Director to let them know that the game is to be cancelled.
