All USA Hockey officials must attend certification seminars every year and the first step toward becoming a hockey ref is to attend a Level 1 seminar. All the information you need is available here. Visit the seminars page to find out when there is a seminar near you. NEW STANDARDS OF PLAY FOR 2006-2007 By now, most of you have heard about the "New Standards Of Play" that USA Hockey is promoting for the upcoming season and many of you have had some experience applying these new standards on the ice. While many players and coaches refer to "the new rules," these are in fact not new rules. The rules have not changed. What has changed is the way we are enforcing these rules. The sections below are intended to help you understand what USA Hockey means and wants and to provide you with some materials that have been designed with that goal in mind. For starters, you can look at two presentations that USA Hockey put together to explain what the new standards are intended to achieve and how they are supposed to be enforced. Click on the links below to download these presentations to your computer. (Note: you need to have Microsoft Powerpoint istalled on your machine to view the PowerPoint version; if you don't have it, download the PDF version). USA Hockey New Standards (8-1-06) USA Hockey Standard Enforcement (8-1-06) A few videos have been produced to illustrate what is meant and to give "real life" examples. Click on the links below to view these videos. USA Hockey Video (Windows

iPod Format) Finally, if you are confused about what is allowed and what is not, USA Hockey produced a PDF document intended to clarify some points of interpretation of the new Standards of Play. Click here to download this document. SHOA-LOGO EMBROIDERED FROM OFFICIALS WEARHOUSE
MAKE SURE YOU APPLY THE RIGHT RULES Many officials work games in different leagues. While the USA Hockey rulebook applies in most cases, there are some leagues that have their own set of rules. Many leagues also see fit to update the rules in the middle of the season to reflect a particular concern. New rules just added (6-22-06) for Piney Orchard Adult League. Click here. VERY IMPORTANT: Before you officiate a game, please make sure you know which rules are to be used for that game, even if you have worked a similar game the week before. Some new directives may have been set forth by the appropriate league since your last game. Check all the rules here before you go to the rink. This page can be updated often. Visit it every time!INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT AND W-9 FORM All new SHOA members (see definition above) must fill out two very important documents: the Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA) and the W-9 form (IRS form). Please download them (as PDF files) by clicking on the links provided. These documents need to be returned to the SHOA Secretary .As you read the ICA, you will need to have knowledge of the SHOA Constitution and SOP. These two documents are available below. While new officials are required to fill out the two documents above, returning officials MUST fill out and sign a new ICA and return it to the SHOA Secretary. Blank ICAs will be available for officials at the General Membership meeting on September 28 but you may want to beat the rush and download it so you can bring your signed copy to the meeting or mail it to our secretary. SHOA CONSTITUTION AND SOP A copy of the SHOA Constitution and of the SOP can be obtained either in Microsoft Word format or in Adobe Acrobat format. Please click on the appropriate link below. SHOA Constitution : Word - Acrobat.SHOA SOP: Word (WARNING: 3.3 Mb file; make sure you have a fast connexion) - Acrobat. In order to read the Acrobat file (PDF), you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
