There has been an important change in the new MSHL rules. It concerns the 10-goal "mercy" rule. This rule is no longer in effect. Instead, there is a 6 Goal Differential rule. Here is an excerpt from the MSHL rulebook:

"6 Goal Differential. In all regular season games between MSHL teams (whether League or Non League), a six goal rule is in effect. If, during the second or third period, there exists a 6 goal or more differential, the game will go “running time”. The clock will only be stopped for goals, imposition of penalties, or at the direction of the on-ice officials. The running clock ceases if the differential is less than 6 goals."

Please not also that, in the event of a scrum where some punches may be exchanged, the officials must take into account the degree and intent of the strike. In other words, not all punches will result in a fighting major.
